The Church is aware of the many factors which may have influenced your decision, and she does not doubt that in many cases it was a painful and shattering decision. The wound in your heart may not yet have healed. Certainly what happened was and remains terribly wrong. But do not give in to discouragement and do not lose hope. Try to understand what happened and face it honestly.
If you have not done so, give yourselves over with humility and trust to repentence. The Father of mercies is ready to give you his forgiveness and his peace in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. You will come to understand that nothing is definitely lost and you will also be able to ask forgiveness from your child, who is now living in the Lord.
With the friendly and expert help and advice of other people and as a result of your own painful experience, you can be among the most eloquest defenders of everyones right to life.

Project Rachel is the Church’s ministry to individuals and families who have been involved in abortion. Project Rachel was founded in 1984 by Vicky Thorn, then pro-life Director for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. A Diocesan based ministry, Project Rachel is a network of specially trained counselors and priests who provide one-on-one counseling and spiritual/sacramental care.
Anyone who is suffering the aftermath of being involved in an abortion can benefit from Project Rachel. When an abortion takes place many people may be in need of help: the mother, the grandparents, the siblings, and the father.
Catholic Charities’ staff is trained to provide sensitive and confidential counseling for anyone suffering from post-abortion trauma.
Catholic Charities works with a network of clergy across the North Country. When you are ready for spiritual healing and reconciliation, the Catholic Charities counselor will help you to locate a priest/minister to assist you in the healing process.
Our fees are based on a sliding fee scale. Services are free of charge for anyone who cannot afford the fee.
I wanted to thank you for being so kind when I called about Project Rachel. I thought I was alone in my sorrow. The kindness you showed me allowed me to take the next step. Your Catholic Charities' counselor has been wonderful. The journey to my soul has beed confusing and sad at times. I have gained so much knowledge. I now do understand, my daughter will be part of my life forever, her spirit remains with me. I have forgiven myself and those around me. I also understand God has forgiven me. I have experienced a spiritual awakening. My parish is a wonderful supportive parish. Four year ago when I first began attending Mass again, I never would have imagined the feelings I have today. My promise is to extend my hand to other women in need.
